UPDATES FROM THE SPRING MCAHA BOARD RETREAT

As many of you have heard there has been some significant work going on behind the scenes to update ratings and league plans for the upcoming seasons. Many thanks to all who have volunteered their time to help shoulder the workload. Knowing the potential impact some of the upcoming changes will bring, the MCAHA Board feels it is important to relay important information to you as it is finalized, so please read through this and also watch for additional emails throughout the summer.  What to expect:

A Fifth Skill Rating Tier–To help with the influx of new interest in adult hockey thanks to the Greenhorn program, we have added an E rating and also revamped the criteria for what constitutes a D, C, B and A player. The new ratings process used a stronger focus on proficiency in specific skill sets for each rating level. The bottom of this website page has a link to the updated Master Ratings PDF document.

An Expanded Fall League–Because of its growing popularity, the board has decided to expand that season to 12 games and 10 teams. There will still be an upper and lower division but there will be 5 teams in each division and each team will play the other teams 3 times with no playoffs). Expect registration for that to run from July 1st - August 15th unless it sells out sooner (which has happened every year).

Changes to Team Criteria for Winter League–The end of season feedback clearly indicated that additional efforts need to be made to increase skill parity among teams. Using team data from last year and the ratings adjustments from this spring we can confidently share the following information to help Captains and teams make adjustments before November:

Rec League:

  • A minimum of four E level skaters per team.

  • An option to have one C level player IF if the team takes on an additional two E level skaters (needing a total of six E players if you have a C player)

Advanced League:

  • No D player minimum.

  • An option for up to two B level players per team IF the team is willing to add two D level players per B player (a total of four D players needed if you choose to have two B players)

Elite League:

  • Evaluating several options for improvement. More details to come
